Athletes/Families who may be interested in attending!
Who: Dedicated VOLUNTEERS from Arizona and the Western United States
interested in becoming trained as "Trainers" in specific courses (Athlete
Leadership 101, Governance, Global Messenger, Athletes as Coaches/Officials,
Technology, Healthy Lifestyles) that comprise the ALPs program.
ATHLETES accompanied by a mentor/helper (volunteer, friend, co-worker, etc.) to
have the opportunity to take multiple specific courses in ALPs during one
weekend.
What: Western Regional ALPs (Athlete Leadership Program) University is an
opportunity for volunteers to be trained as "ALPs Trainers" by Special Olympics
International, and Special Olympics Arizona staff in specific courses (Athlete
Leadership 101, Governance, Global Messenger, Athletes as
Coaches/Officials/Volunteers, Technology, Healthy Lifestyles) to be given an
opportunity to take back the tools needed to implement ALPs in local areas and
outlining states.
ALPs University is also a time for Athlete Leaders who may have already
participated in an ALPs program previously or who are brand new to ALPs. This
is an exciting opportunity for athletes to take multiple ALPs courses (Athlete
Leadership 101, Governance, Global Messenger, Athletes as
Coaches/Officials/Volunteers, Technology, Healthy Lifestyles) throughout the
weekend as a beginning to our growth in athlete leadership around the state.
When: February 10th-12th, 2012
Where: Grand Canyon University - Phoenix, AZ
Why: To provide Special Olympics Athlete's the voice needed to be
leaders.
